Damage to Memorial Stone prompts search for additional Lyons Hometown Military Personnel.
In 1994 a monument was placed near the original World War I, World War II, US Civil War, Spanish American War, and Revolutionary War memorial located at the flagpole in Lyons Wisconsin. The monument included the names of service people originating from the Lyons area who had served our country during the period of the war in Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada and Desert Storm. In 2015 an additional plaque was added to update those that had served since that time or had been missed.
March 17, 2022, The monument was struck by a hit and run driver. It was completely knocked from its base, damaging the stone itself. The vehicle was identified as a 2019-2022 Hyndai Santa Fe and the search is ongoing looking for the driver/owner.
In conjunction with replacing the stone we felt it was time to update with the names of additional military people that should be recognized their dedicated service to our country. If you have served, are serving, or know of a person who left from Lyons, WI to serve any branch of the military and you would like their name included on the stone please contact Linda Skiles via email [email protected] or phone – 262-749-0221
Requirements include the following:
• Lyons Township Resident at the time of enlistment
• It is not a requirement that you served at an active war zone
Please provide:
• The correct spelling of the individual’s name
• Branch of military served in
• Time period served
The cost of the project will be dependent upon the number of names that will be added to the stone. If you would like to help fund this project please contact Skiles as well.
This project is being completed in collaboration with the Legion Post, Lyons for A Better Neighborhood and The Town of Lyons.
